Writing, like life itself, is a voyage of discovery – Henry Miller

Over the new years holidays, Dan and I traveled to Newfoundland for a wedding of a close friend of Dan’s. It was a bit of a last minute decision to go, and it was to be a surprise for the groom. I am quite sure he was so pleased to see Dan. We were welcomed in to celebrate such a special day with the couple and their amazing family and friends. It was such a great environment, filled with loving people and lots of fun, and I can’t imagine having spent New Year’s Eve any other way!

What a beautiful part of this amazing country we are so blessed to call home.

Throughout the years I have had the privilege of seeing Canada from East to West and back again. I have yet to make it out to the very furthest West Coast in British Columbia , but getting to see Newfoundland completed what was left to see of the East Coast. We are truly all blessed to live in such a beautiful and diverse country. Each province has its own environments and sights, each unique in their own way.

I hadn’t been expecting to be so blown away by Newfoundland, but it is a place that I will be returning to for sure (perhaps in the summer months to avoid those wind chills of -35!). Beautiful landscapes, friendly people and amazing food. We sampled bites of cod tongue, lobster bisque and moose sausage. I was officially “screeched in” at the local bar called Trapper Johns. We toured the coast of the island, taking in Cape Spear (the most eastern part of North America), seeing Signal Hill (which was the reception point of the very first transatlantic wireless signal), Jelly Bean Lane (I still can’t get over the colours of all the row houses), and all the fishing boats as well. We toured the old downtown, took in George Street at night (this is the longest road of bars in Canada) and I even found myself an authentic Newfoundland seal pelt to bring home as a souvenir!

It was another great adventure with Dan, and one of the many reason I continue to fall more in love with him. I love exploring with him, and getting to see parts of our own Country that I hadn’t before is always a great way to create memories that will last us a lifetime!
