As many know, this week has been a testing week in the province of Alberta. Unusually warm temperatures and dry conditions for the past few weeks have created optimal conditions for forest fires. This week has brought with it despair, desperation and destruction for the city of Fort McMurray located in Northern Alberta.
Dan and I are so thankful that his mom Terry and her husband Mike were able to evacuate the city and make it safely to our home. They were first notified on Tuesday that their area of the city was calling for an evacuation. Terry arrived safely here at our home outside of Drayton Valley at 4:30am on Wednesday morning. Mike works with an oil company South of the city and he was needed at the plant to help with operations and a possible shutdown. The plant, which is located 45 minutes south of Fort McMurray, was evacuated late last night and he was able to join us here this afternoon.
I can’t even fathom what the families and residents of Fort McMurray must be going through at this time. To have to evacuate your home, some with only the clothes on their backs, would be devastating. We send our prayers and love to those who are without home and displaced at this time.
I am so thankful to live in a province where we can all come together and support one another in a time of need. The actions taken by communities and cities here in Alberta for those in need is heartwarming. May we continue to help those in need and hold out hope for the future of Fort McMurray. Let us remain Alberta strong!
