I love Autumn. I love being able to wear sweaters and boots, I love to sip on a Pumpkin Spice latte, I love eating all the yummy pumpkin treats. I love the smell that fills the air. But along with all the beautiful changes and colours of Autumn, comes the colder weather and with that, frost!
Unfortunately, we have lost what was the remainder of our garden. I am not disappointed as I think that we made out pretty well for our first year. I am sad, however, to have lost the beautiful corn we had growing. It had tasselled out nice and early, was “knee high by the beginning of July” and was going to be great.
Until the frost got it.
Now our chickens are feeding on cobs that hadn’t had the chance to ripen and the rest was browning up and dying in the garden.
So today I had an idea. I couldn’t let all our hard work go to waste. If we couldn’t eat it, then I was bound and determined to find a use for it. I stole the idea from my mom, who always used to get dad to bring home corn stalks when he was out combining on the farm. And I must say she’d probably be proud of the little designer hiding in me.
I know its not much, but with what I had to work with, and for using up our poor dead corn, I think it looks quite nice!
